This lesson would score me big points with her!!! In the juniors, we try to make homework lists as personalised to the child as possible to ensure that the spelling patterns stick in a meaningful way. Even though I've been teaching for awhile, these observations always stress and freak me out.

Our teachers use 'think aloud' statements to model to the children how these skills are used, and how they can help them become better readers.
We aim to provide children with a clear purpose to all reading, and especially writing tasks. In order for them to hold up a four they should know 6 facts, etc.
As I read the rules, they repeat after me. The use of drama is such a powerful tool. This process expands the pupils' imaginations, and provides them with the ideas they need to give their writing that extra spark and flair. Maybe my principal will walk in and see us in action. Seeing the children learn from each other in this way is hugely positive; you know you've done your job well.
